For this week’s travel section, Baz Dreisinger writes about the island of Curaçao and its music scene. But the music scene can be heard all over the Caribbean. Below is a small sampling of some of the popular bands.
Live tumba performance from another one of Curaçao’s most famous bands, Gio Fuertisimo — the originators of ritmo. This one is from this year’s Carnival competition, held last month.
Area 51 and Enmeris; Ryan Navarro, or QD, from Area 51 directed this video, teaching himself video production via YouTube.
From Trinidad, the birthplace of soca music, comes this video for a hit song out of this year’s Carnival festivities. It’s by Machel Montano, the original king of soca.
